Attack on Titan Chap 51 (Spoilers)

Well, the news that the Titans were once humans was suppose to be the big revelation. Yet anyone looking at the Titans can see they *look* human. The entire population of Connie's home village somehow were turned into Titans, yet again this is really nothing new given the 'hint' a few chapters back when that Titan spoke "Welcome Home" to Connie. In this chapter, it pretty much confirmed that Titan was once Connie's mother. 

So the Titans once were humans. Make me wonder what caused them to turned into Titans, nevertheless start eating their fellow humans. Could that giant monkey, a few chapters back, be the culprit? Until that giant Monkey Titan appeared, no Titans were found within Wall Rosa, but suddenly Connie's village turned into Titans when that Monkey appeared. Hmmmm.....

This chapter also mentions Hanji pointing out a theory on why the nape of the neck is the Titans' weak spot. From what I gathered, she says that if you cut the spine at that point, it severs the nerves to the brain, thus killing the Titan. I say, "Ummm... Not really. If the brain is needed, why can Titans regenerate when their heads get blown up?" I think what Hanji is really saying that the nape of the neck is where the real brain is on Titans. After all, Eren and the other Titan Shifters control their Titan forms from a position at the nape of the neck. So when humans fully are transformed into Titans, their 'brains' are at the nape of the neck regardless that the area look like a spine. This pretty would explain why the neck nape is the weak point and that blowing up their heads wouldn't stop them. 

Anyway, these 'revelations' still does not explain the existence of the Titan Shifters, where they came from, etc. Are they on the Titan Monkey's side? Are they foes of the Monkey? There are just too many questions left unanswered regarding the whole mystery of the origin of the Titans. 

As for Eren and Company, it seems he would be hiding for a while. His friends and him are slated to become Levi's new squad. This makes me wonder if there is going to be a time shift. After all, it would make sense for Eren to take some time to learn to control his Titan powers. Then again, the more they wait, the more harder it would be to retake Wall Maria with more Titans likely to pour through Wall Maria.

So the current 'Rescue Eren' arc is over. Makes me wonder what the next arc will be.  Will they plan to retake Wall Maria? Will they show a few chapters where Eren is training and Historia might reveal how the walls were made with the bodies of those giant Titans found in the walls? (Note: Yes, I said 'Titans' as in plural. I really doubt that single Titan in Wall Shira is the only one.)

So it was an interesting chapter. Nothing really revealing IMO given previous chapters gave some 'hints' to what to expect. 

Oh, well. I can't wait for Chapter 52 to come out next month! A whole new arc might get started.
